B Bar Ranch

This card is for my closed SIF card group challenge. The challenge is for a Bee card. Since I'm out of town and have to use what is available from the supplies I brought, I'm asking for a real 'stretch' of imagination.

There is a ranch near Gardiner, Montana on the north end of Yellowstone that encompasses land as far as you can see and beyond. A road goes through the middle of the ranch and ultimately leads to a remote campground. It is also a favorite place for locals and the lucky people that are let in on the secret...moose and especially grizzly bears are more commonly spotted on either side of said road. We've seen 5 grizzlies so far and 1 moose, as well as a small family of white tail deer cavorting in a large meadow area. It's well worth the 30 minute drive.

Back to my card. The stretch is the B Bar Ranch sign. It's going to be as close as I can get to producing a bee card for now!

This bear is from a Lawn Fawn set and the papers are taken from my stash.

Hedgehogs

Being away from home for 2 months means mail doesn't get to you as fast. Bills are done online of course but magazines take longer to be forwarded.

At any rate, I received my Quick Cards mag this week and had to make a card with the free stamp and embossing folder. Its just too cute!

I'm entering this card in the Outlawz Monday challenge - Anything Goes with a sentiment.

I popped the sentiment up to stand out and found this perfect piece of burlap for a background and mounted it all on my homemade card stock. Very fun to make.

Greetings!

It's been so long since I posted but I hope to begin getting back into it. Life is just crazy sometimes and you just have to roll with it!

I went to http://outlawzchallenges.ning.com/ and saw they have a challenge on Festive Friday that includes Christmas and thought I'd join in.

The story behind this 'inspiration' is...when I saw this die cut I thought it was an outhouse. I so loved the idea of positioning Santa coming out. Turns out its a bell tower, but I like outhouse better so tried it anyway. Maybe some of my friends from the south will enjoy it, ha!

At any rate, I'm dropping this in on the Festive Friday Challenge. Drop by Outlawz and check out all the fun they have there!

Petal Power

What a perfect title for the Spring Time going on in Florida! Today starts a new Unicorn Challenge called just that...Petal Power. Be sure to join in the fun with the Design Team!

I made this card using a technique I saw online recently by K Werner Designs called Colorful Springtime Masked Stamping. Click on that title to see the video on YouTube.com. It's a simple process but creates a lovely effect! Thanks Kristina :)

So, here is my card:

I started with plain white cardstock, did the masking technique, tied the ribbon around it and mounted that on a plain lavender cardstock and then onto my handmade paper. Since my mother-in-law loves purple, I will send it to her.

Supplies used:
Stamp set by Hero Arts
Darice Embossing Folder

Go Green

I bought something new at the Stampfest show....gel pens. They are fine point roller ball pens for coloring. Soo, I had to use them to see how they work.

This center stamp was stamped 3 times and fussy cut to raise as layers. I colored them all and then stacked. The shiny cardstock is from a friend for Christmas (thanks again Carole!), the ribbon is part of my stash and basic brown paper is my homemade cardstock and it was dry embossed with a swirl pattern by Stylecraft.

And the color green is pre-dominate for use with the newest Unicorn Challenge for March which is Go Green. Click here or on the highlighted words above to go see the blog and the inspiration cards by the Design Team, and then join in the fun with your own card!

Northern Lights

Sometimes you just have to play to decide whether a technique is something you enjoy or not. That was the case for this card. It is one of 3 attempts with Northern Lights.

We all decided it is interesting but time and ink intensive and better left to occasional use. The colors did come out better than I thought though. I'll probably try it again in the future :)

Cardstock is my home made white stock, tree stamp I think is Hero Arts, house in foreground is from a no-name die cut I just bought by Coconut Craft Dies. Anything else you see is from my stash.

Singing Bird

What do you make for a man who is almost a recluse, lives in a mountain cabin and is a bail bondsman? ...A Chinese proverb with a bird and music background. He plays guitar and several other stringed instruments and loves to sing and play with small groups in his area.

I forgot to take a picture of his card but this is the duplicate. On his I stamped Happy Birthday on the front.

This stamp set is from Mark's Finest Papers. The rest is from stash and the card stock is my homemade brown stock.

Love You...at Unicorn Challenges

A new year, new month, new Challenge! For February Unicorn Challenges is asking for a card with Butterflies and/or Hearts. We have Fabrika Fantasy as sponsors for this month too!

For my card I used a light weight watercolor paper. I used a Martha Stewart butterfly punch to create an outline for the background dabbing with sponges and inks by Tim Holtz and Dew Drop. The butterflies were added last and a little Stickles sparkle completed the look. It's all mounted on a dark cardstock from stash and my light violet hand made paper.

Come join in the fun and be sure to check out the design team's creations!

Steam Punk Jellyfish

This was a fun but unusual project for me. I have a grandson (Brandon) in TN who has a girlfriend (Anna) who is quite an artist. Anna has been posting her art work, done for school, on Facebook and this particular project intrigued me. I asked for permission to use it on a card and this is the result. Anna's class was given 3 pictures of ordinary sea creatures and told to create a 'steam punk' version. Anna chose the  jellyfish. The first draft was a pure drawing but not dark enough to get a good copy of. This final was done on black scratchboard paper for the art class project.

I used a dark pink handmade sheet of paper as the base and a lighter pink for the next layer and to back the jellyfish. I picked out the clock in the center tentacles as a focal point so embossed the white layer with The Paper Studio's Clocks folder and inked it to pop out as a backing for the jellyfish. The sentiments are from various little sets.
