Northern Lights

Sometimes you just have to play to decide whether a technique is something you enjoy or not. That was the case for this card. It is one of 3 attempts with Northern Lights.

We all decided it is interesting but time and ink intensive and better left to occasional use. The colors did come out better than I thought though. I'll probably try it again in the future :)

Cardstock is my home made white stock, tree stamp I think is Hero Arts, house in foreground is from a no-name die cut I just bought by Coconut Craft Dies. Anything else you see is from my stash.

Singing Bird

What do you make for a man who is almost a recluse, lives in a mountain cabin and is a bail bondsman? ...A Chinese proverb with a bird and music background. He plays guitar and several other stringed instruments and loves to sing and play with small groups in his area.

I forgot to take a picture of his card but this is the duplicate. On his I stamped Happy Birthday on the front.

This stamp set is from Mark's Finest Papers. The rest is from stash and the card stock is my homemade brown stock.

Love You...at Unicorn Challenges

A new year, new month, new Challenge! For February Unicorn Challenges is asking for a card with Butterflies and/or Hearts. We have Fabrika Fantasy as sponsors for this month too!

For my card I used a light weight watercolor paper. I used a Martha Stewart butterfly punch to create an outline for the background dabbing with sponges and inks by Tim Holtz and Dew Drop. The butterflies were added last and a little Stickles sparkle completed the look. It's all mounted on a dark cardstock from stash and my light violet hand made paper.

Come join in the fun and be sure to check out the design team's creations!

Steam Punk Jellyfish

This was a fun but unusual project for me. I have a grandson (Brandon) in TN who has a girlfriend (Anna) who is quite an artist. Anna has been posting her art work, done for school, on Facebook and this particular project intrigued me. I asked for permission to use it on a card and this is the result. Anna's class was given 3 pictures of ordinary sea creatures and told to create a 'steam punk' version. Anna chose the  jellyfish. The first draft was a pure drawing but not dark enough to get a good copy of. This final was done on black scratchboard paper for the art class project.

I used a dark pink handmade sheet of paper as the base and a lighter pink for the next layer and to back the jellyfish. I picked out the clock in the center tentacles as a focal point so embossed the white layer with The Paper Studio's Clocks folder and inked it to pop out as a backing for the jellyfish. The sentiments are from various little sets.
